HISTORY OF THE CHÂTEAU

Château Antoinette is located in the municipality of Saint Martin-du-Bois and originally registered in 1555. In the following century, the château was partially destroyed during the war between the Catholics and Protestants, then subsequently rebuilt and enlarged, it became the property of the Lagarde family. The château was seized during the French Revolution and put up for sale in 1795. At that time, Jean-Baptiste Alezay, a citizen of Libourne, bought the castle for 95,300 pounds.

Château de Reignac is ideally situated at the confluence of the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers, the “Entre Deux Mers,” and so enjoys the terroir of both the Right and the Left Banks in a single estate. The original Château was built by Seigneur Baude de Peyron in the 16th century, then remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries.

ABOUT THE CHÂTEAU

A remarkable greenhouse was designed by Gustave Eiffel, of the Parisian tower. Yves and Stephanie Vatelot, purchased Reignac in 1990 and have worked continuously ever since to restore the state to its former glory both as a wine producing estate and an exceptional place to stay. Château de Reignac also recently won the prestigious Best of Wine Tourism Award d’Or for 2018.

The creation of the central square courtyard, and the Château’s four corner towers, and high central tower to the main entrance, provided symmetry and order to a largely medieval property.
