WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES!

Château Living were pleased to host a group of 25 friends who came together from across Europe and the Middle East in Bordeaux for a very special birthday celebration. They stayed together in luxury châteaux accommodation provided by Château Living where they enjoyed Michelin* dining, two swimming pools, private dinner parties, pilates among the vines for the ladies and a table tennis competition for the gents. Château Living arranged everything from ‘Bonjour’ to ‘Au Revoir’ during their long weekend together; airport transfers, luxury suites, fabulous meals and lots of wine for an altogether extraordinary experience in Bordeaux.

Here are some glimpses of this very special day

Exploring Saint-Émilion with Chateau Living

To make the most of their short time away together, Château Living arranged the ultimate experience in Bordeaux! A day-out to top all others. Beginning in Saint-Émilion with a walking tour exploring this incredible medieval village, where wine has been produced for 2000 years. Making their way through the cobbled alleys, wine boutiques and stunning historic streets and incredible architecture the friends were met by horses and carriages to take them to the vineyards and châteaux for their wine tours.

Extraordinary views overlooking Saint Émilion

Picture perfect with clear blue skies, stunning honey limestone architecture surrounded by verdant green vines – what an incredible sight from the back of a horse drawn carriage! Beneath Château Beausejour Bécot the group explored the labyrinth of quarried galleries where the stone to build châteaux, village and Bordeaux was sourced below the vineyards. These underground galleries extend to up to 200km below Saint-Émilion. In past times the sale of stone contributed as much to the wealth of these châteaux as the vines & wine production.

A helicopter to paradise

After a lunch at the splendid Red Terrace restaurant next stop was Château Soutard for a second wine tasting. From there the friends were whisked off by 3 helicopters to the magical Point of Cap Ferret at the mouth of the fabulous Bay of Arcachon. The group felt like they’d landed in paradise as they boarded 3 chalands to cruise up to the delicious oyster, seafood & white wine tasting at the oysterman’s wood cabin at Le Canon.

Whisked away by helicopter to the magical Point of Cap Ferrat

To catch the sunset, high speed semi-rigid boats took the guests from the shoreline back across the Bay to the beach at the Dune de Pyla – Europe’s highest sand dune and most spectacular. There each couple was given a delicious picnic and bottle of crémant to enjoy together on top of the dune as the sun set. What an extraordinary day!
A fitting end to an extraordinary day

WINTERY WINE TOUR IN BORDEAUX

Despite the wet and blustery January day, we enjoyed a fabulous day exploring and sampling the wine of the Medoc region with the delightful Elodie on this wine tour in Bordeaux, France. The day began with a visit to Château du Tertre in the Margaux Appellation d’origine contrôlée. A delicious lunch at Bistrot Chez Mémé was followed by a visit to Château Lafon-Rochet in the Saint-Estèphe Appellation, both Châteaux Grand Cru Classé en 1855. The day was complete with a visit to the delightful family-owned Cru Bourgeois classified Château  du Moulin Rouge where we tasted and purchased their very palatable 2012 vintage. A great day of wine tasting was had by all!

This wine tour in Bordeaux’s Medoc region was a fascinating and insightful day for everyone. Our wine tour guide Elodie was bubbling over with enthusiasm and extremely knowledgeable, never tiring of our questions throughout the day, as she drove us between locations through the stunning Bordeaux countryside in a luxury black Mercedes minibus. The hosts at each of the châteaux were friendly, attentive and had excellent English language skills. Each host explained the history and wine-making philosophy of their particular château as they led us on a tour of the vineyards and the château’s technical facility. The precision and technical requirements of the wine-making process were eye-opening, and the skill of the Vigneron and their team admirable. The choice of restaurant for lunch was Elodie’s and the food was simple but authentically French, and enjoyed by everyone without exception.

Why not let us organise your own wine tour in Bordeaux, whether in the Medoc or one of the other wine-growing regions in the area? We will arrange for you to be picked up from the château where you’re staying, and returned safely after a day to remember. And if you visit in Spring, Summer or Fall, you’ll likely enjoy a day with considerably more sunshine than ours!
